<들판 꿰매기: 사유하는 이의 화환>은 움직이는 인간 신체와 자연 간의 상호작용을 기록했습니다. 영상은 한국의 울릉도와 대만에 위치한 작가의 집 주변에서 촬영한 것입니다. 작가는 마이크로 돋보기가 장착된 카메라를 들고 풀과 꽃, 나무들을 촬영하면서 이들과 소통하는 자신의 움직임을 영상에 담았습니다. 그리고 이 영상은 자연 재료인 천연 식물 섬유로 만든 자수천에 투사되는데, 이를 통해 실재와 가상은 하나로 합쳐집니다. 이와 같은 영상 투사 기법은 불교 ‘인드라망’에서 영감 받은 것입니다. 사방으로 끝없이 펼쳐지는 인드라망의 그물코에는 보배구슬이 달려 있고, 이 구슬들은 끝없이 연결되고 펼쳐집니다. 인드라망처럼 세상 모든 존재는 서로에게 영향을 주고받습니다. 작가는 이 작품을 통해 지속적으로 변화하는 우주적 관점을 보여주고자 합니다. 자연으로부터 온 자수천 스크린과 인간이 만든 영상이 상호 보완하며 작품을 이루듯이 인간과 자연의 관계는 서로를 마주하며 만들어지는 인간의 지각, 의지, 정서가 만들어낸 상호 반사적인 것임을 보여줍니다.

<Sewing Fields: Thinker’s garland> recorded the interaction between the moving human body and nature. The video was taken around Ulleung Island in Korea and the artist's house in Taiwan. The artist took a camera equipped with a micro magnifying glass and captured her movements communicating with them while filming grass, flowers, and trees. And this image is projected onto a natural material, an embroidery cloth made of natural plant fibers, through which reality and virtuality come together. This image projection technique is inspired by Buddhism, Indramang. Indramang's endless mesh is hung with treasure beads, which are endlessly connected and spread out. Like Indramang, all beings in the world influence each other. Through this work, the artist wants to show an ever-changing cosmological perspective. Just as the embroidered cloth screen from nature and human-made images complement each other and form works, the relationship between humans and nature shows that human perceptions, wills, and emotions created by facing each other are mutually reflective.

작가설명 Artist Biography

호이 팅은 대만에 거주하며 작품 활동을 하고 있는 작가이다. 작가는 자수와 이미지, 영상 요소들을 혼합함으로써 일상적인 시각적 경험을 재구성하며 일상생활 속의 이미지에 주목하는 새로운 방식들에 대해 고찰한다. 그는 특히 과거와 현재의 사회경제적인 관점에서 여성노동환경 구조에 대해 관심을 가지고 있다. 그는 시간이 지나면서 나타나는 신체와 이미지의 관계에 중점을 둔 작품을 창작하고 있다. 실제로 전시장에서 사람들이 직접 바느질을 하는 모습을 이용해 자본주의 사회에서 이뤄지는 노동 과정에 대한 문화적 비판으로 전환시키는 연출을 한다. 그는 국립 타이난 예술대학에서 석사 학위를, 국립 타이베이 예술대학에서 학사 학위를 받았다. 국내외에서 개인전을 비롯해 다수의 전시에 참여해왔으며 대표적으로는 독일 볼프스부르크, 쿤스트 박물관 《Empowerment》(2022), 대만 타이베이 시립 박물관 《Cold Chain: 호이 팅 개인전》 (2019), 일본 가나자와, 21세기미술관 《Taiwanese Contemporary Textile Art》(2017) 등의 전시회에 참여했으며, 그의 작품들은 타이베이 시립박물관, 까오슝 시립미술관, 국립대만미술관등에 소장되어 있다.

Hou I Ting is a visual artist who lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan. Digital images and video art are Hou’s mediums of choice, and by blending imagery and video with embroidery, Hou challenges the way we identify imagery in everyday life while reconfiguring an otherwise prosaic visual experience. She is especially interested in the female labor condition in the socioeconomic system of the past and of today. Her work often features the human body (as situated) in the rapidly changing contemporary society, and examines the ways in which digital technology and machines alter the functions of the human body, the physical nature of space, and everyday living in general. In particular, she transforms her on-site sewing performance into a cultural critique on the labor process within a capitalist society. She received her MFA in Plastic Arts at the Tainan National University of the Arts and a BFA from the Taipei National University of the Arts. She has exhibited internationally, including 《Empowerment》 (Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, Germany, 2022), 《Changwon International Sculpture Biennale》 (South Korea, 2022), 《Taipei Biennial 2020: You and I Don’t Live on the Same Planet》 (Taipei Fine Arts Museum, 2020), 《We Now Stand — In Order to Map the Future》 (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, 2019), 《Tejiendo identidades (Weaving Identities)》 (PHotoEspaña, Spain, 2019), and 《Cold Chain》 (Taipei Fine Arts Museum, 2019). The artist’s work is included in the permanent collections at Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
